WORKSHOPS

Local History Workshop: Following each seminar, THINK HISTORY will host a Local History Workshop in one of four regions within the service area –participants will attend only one of these workshops each year. The purpose of the Local History Workshops is to offer teachers an in-depth examination of local material for classroom use, as well as to acquaint them with local historians and cultural organizations. Local History Workshops will provide teachers with an opportunity to devise and share strategies for incorporating history into their classrooms.

Research Workshop: A series of Research Workshops will be held at the Ohio Historical Center and the State Archives of Ohio. Participating teachers will attend one of the workshops. These workshops will review History research skills and methods and orient participants to the rich and extensive primary source material housed at the Ohio Historical Center and available online via Ohio Memory and OhioPix .

SUMMER INSTITUTE

Each year THINK HISTORY participants will take part in a one-week residential summer institute at the Ohio Historical Center in Columbus . The Institute will offer teachers an opportunity to work closely with a number of the nation's leading scholars. The content of the Summer Institute will focus on the four core themes, reinforcing and deepening the subject matter from the school-year seminars and allowing participants to explore the pedagogical implications of the new content knowledge so that it can be most effectively transferred to their students. Ohio University faculty will lecture, lead discussions of common readings, and engage teachers in debate and interpretation of proven scholarship and historical methods while OHS curators and archivists introduce participants to primary source material and analysis and research methods. By combining the contextual historical information with new analytical skills and primary source material, teachers will begin to construct their own historical narratives.
